I love PvP, but I was getting tired of entering BGs on my DK with either his Tank or DPS spec and either wearing my tank or PvP gear.

With my tank gear, I was having fun. It would take more than 3 hordies to kill me but I could not burn them down fast enough to make a difference or if I could burn them down (ie: have no heals) it would take a bit of time.

With my PvP gear, I had no survivability to even hit things since my DPS spec was built around killing not surviving.

Now since I turned 80 I have been collecting PvP gear since I do well...PvP and right about now I'm in full Furious with maybe 1 or 2 Relentless pieces. I went ahead and
So I researched, since it's one of the good things I can do. Guess what I found?

Unholy tree tops the PvP meter for DKs.

Now, now. I did already know this, but Unholy just doesn't sound all that appealing to me. I mean of course you get a ghoul pet and a gargoyle to some but Blood has the Dancing Rune Weapon, which is awesome! (Needs buffed though, I think) and Frost has the nice frosty AE plus the crazy, insane Hungering Cold that freezes your enemies in place. (I loved popping that in a large group of Hordies.)

But it all comes down to burst and survival. So I researched the top arena DKs. Found a nice Unholy spec to replace my DPS spec and BOOM!! Instant top of the chart Killing Blows in all my BGs. Topping the Damage Done chart, and rarely dying!! I found that I have this habit of treating my BG or Arena fights as a tank fight and just tanking the opposing team and for some reason it works for me. The fights are all real fast paced and I love it. Also turns out that if I PvP right before raid, everything in raid seems slower and more easily adapted to than before. Before it was ''OMG!!! Many Whelps!! Handle it!!'' Now it's ''50 dkp minus to al the DPS!! You're moving to slow! I have the adds already!! Kill Them!!''

Anyways back to the issue at hand, I have to say I was impressed. I had put it off so long but now I really love the Unholy tree and the spec I use for PvP and Arenas. Every hordie class seems to fall, groveling and begging for mercy, for which I give none!! Well maybe not every class but Mages and Trees are definitely not on my ''Cannot Kill, Ever'' List. I have their number now. But a few still have mine.

So now I beg of the DKs out there to bless me with their Unholy Forgiveness for I knew not what I did not understand. And if you were like me, give Unholy a chance, and you will never regret it.

Now to find some more Hordies!! For Wrynn! For the Alliance!! For Blood and Honor!!

Go out and 'Find your Friend'!!

Incoming!!

It seems that's what I keep thinking to myself lately. Ever since my last post things have been zooming at my head and I was ducking and weaving, trying to dodge, it would seem those little wooden dummies used in martial arts. Boy, are my shins bruised.

Between work and life issues, everything was just plain busy for a bit. Summer has come and with new possibilities and free time. Though I am still strapped for cash. Being an Adult, sucks!! This is the part of life my mom never told me about and I am pretty sure it was her way of getting back at me for everything I did when I was growing up. Well, she got me good, yes, she did.

In the coming months I hope to finish off my tanking articles and start some fresh stuff. Bear with as I update the site and get my blogs rolling again. I also have some great ideas coming up.

You see....**pst! I have been playing with Fraps on WoW**. Some interesting videos might pop up. Be on the look out.

And as I always like to do, Make Friends of those NPCs!!! My wife and I decided to get married on V-Day 2004 and boy, was she gorgeous walking down that aisle. I swear time stopped as well as my heart when I saw her in that wedding gown. No one could beat me in the overwhelming flood of emotions that surged my chest. I was so close to breaking down right there at the altar, thanking God for such a wonderful person to join with and share my life with.

So now 6 years later coming up on our Anniversary, I can't help think that all through those years when we've had our ups and downs. I can't really ever boast of a major fight between us. There has been disagreement where I would act mad at her but it never lasted long. Most if not all of my being mad or upset with her, have all been mostly an act and when she reads this all my secrets will be out....so.....sshhhh....you didn't hear this from me. (You ever make up with your sweetie after a fight? So now you know why I act mad.)

Every time I look at her, whatever may be going on, all is lost on me. I look at her and think, she married me, not the guy down the street, not the guy she had a crush on when she was a teenager but me, the poor, not all that handsome guy, who is still trying to find a career, that plays a game on a computer and researches the most weirdest things. Why would she do that? Definitely wasn't for the money or the easy life she would have.

Love.

That's all there is to it. Everyone has someone that will love them unconditionally. So go find that one person, or if you have them already....well what are you doing here for?! Go give them a hug and tell them you love them, instead of reading this silly blog!!!

That and she told me that I make her Laugh. :)

Death Knight Tanking Part 1: Rotations

Well here we are another week and another blog that no one will read. That is all based on my comment section but what are friends for if not to drag you down into the dirt and let you know your doing a crappy job by not posting in the comments? Pssh...friends...who needs them when I have you?

Let's get started, shall we?

Now provided you have a great spec for tanking and your gear is good meaning you have all the stats you need whether it be Defense, Hit, Expertise, Stamina, etc. We will be starting a hopefully several article series for tanking. Mostly focusing on tanking rotations, positioning, strats, etc for both Blood and Frost specced tanks.

Today we will focus on rotations. The following are a list of abilities that I will use two to three letter abbreviations for:

PS > Plague Strike
IT > Icy Touch
BB > Blood Boil
Pes > Pestilence
HB > Howling Blast
HC > Hungering Cold
FS > Frost Strike
DS > Death Strike
OB > Obliterate
HS > Heart Strike
BS > Blood Strike
DnD > Death and Decay
BT > Blood Tap
ERW > Empower Rune Weapon
DC > Death Coil
RS > Rune Strike

HoW > Horn of Winter

Blood Tank Single Target Rotation should consist of:
HoW > IT > PS > HS > HS > DS> DC > DS > HS >HS > HS > HS > DC

Following this while refreshing IT and PS whenever your diseases fall off will pull max threat from your target. Using Blood Tap generously to ensure a smooth rotation, due to the Rune cooldowns.

Now you should notice that I did not include Rune Strike in this rotation even though it is our highest threat inducer. I did it for one reason and one reason only. You should have Rune Strike macro'd to at least four other abilities. For tanking they should be macro'd to IT, PS, DS and HS(Blood Strike if your Frost Spec).

I use the following format macro:

#showtooltip
/cast someAbility
/cast Rune Strike

Some people may notice that I did not use an '!' before Rune Strike, like so: /cast !Rune Strike
This was so as not to toggle an ability off, since Rune Strike is used on the next melee attack, many thought the ability could be stopped before use. At the moment you cannot stop Rune Strike once you activate it unless your target dies or you stop attacking. So no '!' is needed in the macro. The one other macro I use for Runestrike is for IT and PS:

#showtooltip
/castsequence reset=10 Icy Touch, Plague Strike
/cast Rune Strike

This is to save bar space and since IT and PS should only be used to refresh diseases it makes for a good use one multi-tap button.

Now if you happen to be Runic Power starved, only macro Rune Strike to Plague Strike and Icy Touch. You want to make sure you have enough Runic Power in case to you need to pop cooldowns such as Icebound Fortitude and Anti-Magic Shell.

If you happen to have too much Runic Power feel free to throw in Death Coil as your Runic dump.

Blood Tank Multi-Target Rotation should consist of:
HoW > DnD > IT > PS > Pes > DS > DS > BB > BB > BB > BB > etc.

Following this while refreshing your diseases and DnD should allow for maximum threat. If you can, throwing in Heart Strikes will definitely help since HS hits 2 targets.

Frost Tank Single Target Rotation should consist of:

HoW > IT > PS > BS > BS > OB > OB > FS > FS > BS > BS

Following this and refreshing your diseases and with Killing Machine procs (if your specc'd) should allow max threat. Throwing in Howling Blast if specc'd would be fine as well.

Frost Tank Multi-Target Rotation should consist of:
HoW > HB > PS > Pest > BS > BB > BB > HB > BS > BS > BB > BB

Refreshing your diseases and adding DnD would just increase your threat further. You should notice that I did not include Icy Touch into this rotation. This rotation is based around you being specc'd into Howling Blast. Meaning if your specc'd with HB, you should have the Glyph of Howling Blast, which states that any target hit with Howling Blast will be affected by Frost Fever, thus saving you a Frost Rune and a global cooldown.

Author's Notes
When I state 'refreshing your diseases', this implies two things. One: your making sure that your diseases are taking their full time to tick and Two: that Pestilence is being used for Multi-Target groups.

All of these rotations are on a situational basis, meaning sometimes you don't have time to punch all those buttons in that order, and all the rotations can be shuffled to your preference. In a Patchwerk type of battle, I found that the Single target rotations are the simplest, most effective means of threat gathering. In a mob type fight, such as ICC trash before Lord Marrowgar, I have found the above Multi-Target rotations to be the most effective.

Final Note: Due to time restraints, I will not be linking to wowhead.com with mouseover pop-ups. Instead just know that I use wowhead.com and feel free to have a second browser open to wowhead.com for reference.

I'm Back!

Due to time restraints this week and some unfortunate family medical concerns from this past weekend, I was unable to place the final finishing paragraphs on my tanking strat article. So today I will be making a short post about nothing specific.

Lately I have been feeling great pressure playing my DK, my Rogue, Redyps and my Warlock, Redfyre. I have only been on my DK for raids over the past couple weekends and of course, for my Daily Random Heroic. Redyps and Redfyre have only been logged on when I need something specific from their inventories or professions.

I have actually felt somewhat burnt out, but for some reason I was still researching and studying my DK so as to further his skills. But people in my guild and raid group knew I wasn't myself. I was getting irritable in raid. People weren't performing that way I wanted them to. I wasn't performing the way I wanted to. I stopped thinking of scenarios to different bosses. I stopped being creative with my abilities, with my tanking. I was on autopilot tanking.

These past couple weeks I have been leveling my Hunter, Redblud, and my Druid, Redwulf. Mainly through instances with a couple of guildies who were running the Recruit-A-Friend, who were mainly running through instances with no or little questing but since I wasn't a RaF toon, I was definitely questing more to keep up which has worked out so far for my hunter who is now level 71.

My guildies went ahead and made another set of toons and now my Druid, Redwulf has been keeping pace with them.

It's been nice playing these newish toons of mine and giving me a break from the 'grownups'. They are also planning on making another set of toons after the current set hits 60 so I went ahead and made another toon, a Warrior named Redrayge to prep and get ready for the next set.

All in all it has been fun, but I was still feeling the crushing burden of being run down and I didn't know why. I have thought on it and thought on it. Still nothing, then last night I got tired fast after work. I got home made dinner for my wife, my cousin and myself, got on WoW and played two instances, one on my DK and one on my warlock. After the second instance I knew I was crashing. I went to bed, my wife came with me.

Now normally I go to bed on a weekday(workday) at 12midnight or 1am. Last night I hit my pillow at 8-8:30pm. I wasn't feeling sick but just dragged-through-the-mud tired. I awoke early this morning at 5am, about two and half hours before my alarm would go off, wide awake. So I figured I would take a shower and maybe finally alter my jeans to keep from dragging the ground under my boots. (And Yes....I know how to sew....sewing machines are for suckers. Here is where all the ladies say, 'OMG! He can cook and sew!'(I'm sorry, Ladies. I'm already taken and there is no way you can beat my wife in looks.))

Well after my shower and altering my jeans, I figured I would do some WoW.com surfing. I hit to site only to find an article on Invincible. I click the links and somehow ended up on the Battlecry Mosaic site and found the 'Invincible' song that was currently unlocked. I listened to it and let me tell you. If you want my attention give me a good song to listen to. Songs get my attention, having grown up musically and trying to go through college as a music major until my college loans got to be too much for me. Music speaks to me. And this song spoke volumns.

I don't know if it was the music, or the sleep but I was feeling my old self again. I want to play all my toons. I want to try and be the best at what my toons do. My old self was bubbling to the surface. The self that was confident, the self that could stir my abilities to perform differently, the self that could have fun!!

Man!!! I cannot wait to get home tonight! What fun I will be having after work!!

Where is your fun self?

Death Knight is the RoaDK to Awesomeness

I never know how to start these articles of RoaDK so listen to the video above while you read today.

Another raiding weekend has passed and at least another boss was downed. While we didnt make a lot of progress in 25 man we gave several good attempts on Rotface and if we can clean up our kiting of the oozes then we can get him down. We gave a try or two on Festergut but still seems like a DPS race and we seem to be lacking there, for now anyway.

10 man had a lot more promise this week. We were able to finally get Rotface down. It was close, oh, so very close, with myself as the Big Ooze kiter I went down near the end of the fight due to the building of a second big ooze in my kite path. With me down and the big ooze going crazy with power we ended up killing Rotface but only with two or three people alive. This week I feel that we can get him down cleaner.

Since both Festergut and Rotface were down, their door valves were active and we were allowed to used these to open up Professor Putricide's door and enter his Laboratory of Horror and Fun.

On the way to his door we took down a couple respawns and trap trash. Standing there in front of the hallway, we watched as the doors filled with Festergut's gas and Rotface's slime causing the doors to open and we entered unsuspectingly into that hallway. I say unsuspectingly because the way was open with no trash but as soon as we stepped in the doors closed and in jumped Flesh-eating Insects! No tab targetting and having a hard time to mouse click them we just had to use AE damage to take them down. It wasn't that hard but a good surprise and of course some of the ladies in my group were kinda screaming. It was pretty funny.

We gave Prof. Putricide a good three tries before calling it for the night. We were unable to get him into second phase but we had a fun time and of course I was the sexy OT Abomination, eating away at that slime. Yum!

After 25 man ICC on Sunday our group went back and we gave him another 5 attempts and were able to get him into second phase. At one point we were almost at the third phase but didnt quite make it.

Some people had to go and we felt that getting a new person in and with only two attemps left, it would take too long for them to get adjusted and for us to teach them what they needed to do, so we decided to call it for the weekend.

Overall it was a great weekend.

Keep your eye out for the next article. I will be going over DK tanking strategies, which abilities to use for both AE tanking or Single-target tanking, and which abilities should always or never be used, this will include a good rotation for either spec. I will be placing emphasis on both Blood tanking and Frost tanking in particular and with a minor glancing of Unholy, since this spec is not one I research, so most of that info will be second hand. Enjoy your week!

Puppy Pound

Another week, another challenge! And no, I am not hurting any puppies. Have you seen the video above. Cutest little furry bastards EVAR!

This past weekend was the first weekend of Icecrown Citadel: The Plagueworks Wing, featuring the two new abomination models of Festergut and Rotface and their very senile father, Professor Putricide, who to me sounds ridiculously similar to Professor Farnsworth.

Now to get a longer raid time for ICC 25 man we switched our raiding schedule around so that we were 10 manning on Saturday and 25 manning on Sunday. Saturday went really well boss-wise until we met Rotface. We wiped several times on him, but every time getting him closer and closer. 25 man consisted of us killing the first 4 bosses but unforntunately it definitely seems like a DPS gear check on Festergut and we were unable to take him down but we did make the Enrage timer which is good. So we put notice on Rotface for 10 man this next weekend and Festergut on 25 man for hopefully this next weekend as well.

But I am not here to talk about them. I am here because of two mobs that were placed in this new wing in the halls before each Festergut and Rotface. Yes, that's right. I'm talking about Stinky and Precious. These two look and play just like Gluth does, except one is smelly and likes to ooze green clouds at everyone all the time and the other likes to play with zombies.

The one thing I did notice was that Precious has a buff of a 1st Place ribbon on her and that made me wonder when these guys found the time to have a dog show if they are continually trying to kill every living thing! Wait! Maybe that's why this wing was closed down for those 28 days before opening! They had the who's who of the Evil lore dudes parading their pretty pups around and judging the best one. Which begs the question that if Precious won, who was last place? My vote is on Kael'thus.

But I'm begging the pooch here...hehe....begging......ahem...nevermind.

Now I liked the Gluth encounter in Naxx and was quite happy with the placement of Stinky and Precious in ICC. Both Gluth and the Abom-pups have similar abilities, such as Decimate and the stacking debuff called Mortal Wound that reduces healing. The differences lie in the stacking of that debuff, which stacks faster and can easily get to 10 stacks which reduces the healing on the tank completely. So two tanks are definitely needed.

Both Stinky and Precious do another ability, just not the same one. Stinky has flatulence issues and constantly pulses out an AoE called Plague Stench. Coupled with Decimate, this could definitely cause a raid wipe. And with us it did. Decimate followed by a pulse equals dead DPS and healers. But we got back up and took him out the 2nd time.

Precious, like I said earlier, likes to play with her food and has the ability to summon ghouls, which require immediate AoE to start taking out as many as possible. Now these ghouls do not heal Precious thankfully, but the tanks that are tanking Precious should not be tanking the adds as they also place a stacking debuff on their targets. I seem to remember getting her down the first time but it could have been the second time but I could be getting my 10 and 25 man mixed up.

Now after killing Stinky, Festergut speaks up and yells at us about killing his pup so while fighting Precious, I told myself that I would die laughing if Rotface pops in spouting, 'Preciousss, my Precioussssss.' *gollum, gollum.* Alas! he did not. Would have been hilarious though. Too bad.

All in all, it was a fun weekend of new sights, especially since Slime Frogger in Naxx was moved to this new wing in the form of Frost-Fire Frogger. Blizzard is tricksy, yess preciousss, very tricksy. *gollum, gollum.* About 4 people bit the dust walking into those traps after zoning in. The good news is that you can send one person good at frogger in to activate the Frost Rune teleporter for those of you who can never make it.

Have a great week and I will see, well write again next week!

The Frost Hungers

Howdy all!

Recently, I have been playing with a new tank spec besides my current Blood tank spec.

After patch 3.3 dropped, the addition of Rune Strike to Threat of Thassarian, Dual Wield tanking has taken a nice climb in the ranks of Death Knight tanking. My current DW Frost tank build is 5/61/5. I have added functionality with Improved Icy talons for a group buff on haste(my raid group has curently made a change and we now have a Enh Shammy so I will be dropping Icy Talons before next raid and placing those points elsewhere) and to activate my own Killing Machine procs and for Chillblains to help in mob groups and with the Deathbringer Saurfang fight in ICC. Those Blood Beasts can move fast and with the chillblains the movement reduction helps the DPS take those things down fast and with less kiting.

I am currently using a slow main hand DPS weapon and a fast off hand DPS weapon. One thing you need to know about the DW tanking is the amount of Expertise you will need to cover the parry gibbing from raid bosses. If you're using a setup like I am, Expertise should be around 30, that's about 8%. Now I hate math so there was no way I was going figure this out on my own. I used Tankspot for information on this, and as soon as I find the correct page I will link it(Found it! MATH BE HERE). But according to their math with a DK having two fast one-handers, they will take as much or less parrying as a warrior tank by about 0.2%. So if you want to DW tank, Expertise should be at 30 or 8% for two fast one-handers or at 26 for two slow one-handers. If you plan on using a fast offhand and a slow main hand then always shoot for the 30(8%) Expertise.

I like the fact that as Frost, a lot of my attacks are instant and non-melee. This definitely helps when it comes to parry hasting on bosses and with Rune Strike not being able to be parried, this means all the more threat to raise.

As of right now I am enjoying DW tanking thoroughly. A few more cooldowns and you have to admit and seeing a DK dual wield tank is pretty sweet looking, especially with 2 huge axes being swung around.

I am finding that in Heroics, Frost is definitely better all round, especially since with the new Looking for Dungeon UI is out and people want to speed through the instances trying to beat the some kind of record within the confines of their head, I guess. And with my Blood tank still my primary for the moment, I can switch at need if I get a healer who is not quite on the ball.

As for Raids, I'm finding that I take slightly less damage and have tanked all current bosses in Icecrown Citadel excluding the new wing that was opened this week. My threat output now is I believe comaparable to Paladins, which is great.

If you plan on Dual Wielding tanking anytime soon on your DK, here is a few weapons you might want to pick up to get started. If you want to use the 2 slow 1-hander DPS weapons, you can pick up a couple of Nighttimes from Heroic Forge of Souls off of Bronjahm, Godfather of Souls. if you want a couple of classic 1-handed tanking weapons(stat sticks), force a few of Rimefang's Claws out of Scourgelord Tyrannus, who watches over the Lich King's waiting room in Heroic Pit of Saron. Be careful with him though. He says we should have stayed in the mountains, and you may wish you were there after meeting him.

Well that about wraps things up for now. So grab your armor and ready your steel, for the Lich King comes!

Army Scharmy!

Howdy! And welcome to another edition of RoaDK! I loved that movie and I felt the picture fit this article so I posted it. I have one or two project posts in the works, but I came across something this past week or two that started to irk me, especially with this new LFG system in effect on Live servers.

It was the Death Knight use of Army of the Dead.

Now, honestly, I love this talent. I love being able to once every 10 minutes (6 if your spec'd) summon vast powers of unholy energy and rip the undead from their graves and command them to do my bidding. Complete awesome sauce! Until someone pops it in a dungeon with a lot of mobs such as Pit of Saron. And this army went nuts! This DPS DK pops Army and soon most of the front half of the instance is aggro'd.

Unfortunately, this can be a problematic talent in the hands of the untrained. The one problem with this, is that the 8 Ghouls that you raise from their grave are pissed! They want to kill anything and everything, meaning they taunt and poke fun at things until the mobs, bosses, evil NPCs are attacking them and only them. Such as my last run in Heroic Pit of Saron. And this army went nuts! This DPS DK pops Army and soon most of the front half of the instance is aggro'd. Boy was everyone pissed. then the DK had the gall to yell at me for not controlling the adds he pulled.

In a lot of boss fights where mob or add control is very important, this is very bad.
The one example I ran into was during an Ulduar run on Ignis. Now he is just a basic tank and spank while kiting fight. Pretty simple, except that he calls forth stone statues to do his bidding. Thus the off-tank (OT) has to kite these thru fires and then the water and then one massive crit later they go BOOM!

Now throw in an angry undead army and we have problems. The statue will not stay on the OT but instead gets ticked off at the undead army making fun of him and goes careening off. Fortunately on Ignis, this a recoverable affair.

Now lets chose another boss then. Say, Emalon the Storm Watcher and his angry posse of Revenants. Your MT is in there handling the adds, since he has better AE threat and your OT is handling Emalon since he is able to stay in and eat the Nova. Then you hear, 'Pop ur Armies, DKs'. At that point my instant reaction is , OMGWTH!!! Pop Anti-Magic Shell, Icebound Fortitude, and run for the exit. This is a wipe.

Why? you ask.

For one simple reason. The Revenant adds in Emalon's room are tauntable by pets. So for 30 seconds or until Ghoul death, the adds cannot be controlled by the MT handling the adds.
Well, why not just wait it out and then have the MT pick all the adds back up?

Now you see, that's the problem. Once Army has the adds they run all over the place, and in those 30 seconds, an Overcharge will appear on 1 mob and since everything is helter skelter, the add can't get mowed down in time and BOOM!, raid wipe. All because someone said, 'DKs, pop ur armies!' and that DK(s) listened.

This should prompt a little note in someone's head saying, research boss fights! Why? Because it's simple and easy. You don't want to wipe! Knowing your boss fights or at the least, anything in the boss fight is tauntable by pets should be noted and stored away in your noggin' for future reference.

Now in this situation, there are 2, count them, 2 people who need to learn about the DK abilities.

Number 1: The raid leader (supposing that the raid leader was the one that called out for Army). It is always the responsibility of the raid leader to know the fights and what and what not to do during said fight. Hence have some basic understanding of every class.

Number 2: The DK!! Yes, that's right, especially the DK. When the DK hears something like that, he should have in mind already if he is going to pop Army or not on this particular boss fight. He should know which bosses he can and cannot have Army out on. Why? He is the DK, he should know what his abilities do and what they don't do.

Now sometimes there are uses for the Army taunts during boss fights, say Heroic Pit of Saron on Scourgelord Tyrannus.

Your running through Heroic Pit one day as a DK and your tank is a Warrior or some other class tank. You get to Scourgelord and for some reason halfway through the fight your tank's screen freezes and can't pop defensive cooldowns or he's taking to much damage for the healer or your little rag tag party to compensate for. This fight doesn't have addition adds to control and it's simple to get Scourgelord back on the tank, so pop your Army!! You just gave your tank and healer a 15 to 30 second breathing window. You just saved the raid! Cheers!

Now not all Bosses, heroic or otherwise, are tauntable. So to all you DKs out there, learn your abilities. Learn your fights. Learn to place on the back burner those abilities that could hender(Yes, this especially applies to all you DPS DKs and your love of Death grip. Wanna use the Grip, then you are the tank my friend.). Run through scenarios and find out which of those abilities will help. Don't just go around popping your Army when you feel like it.

Well my rant is through and maybe sometime this week I will post one of my projects up.

/grrr

Shadows of Red

Every WoW blooger has done it, including my bud, Matheo, with his 'Meet the Fam' blog post, so I'm jumping on the bandwagon and am here to tell you about my toons.

First, it all started with my cousin. I was on the phone with him one day and he said," Hey have you ever tried Warcraft?"

"No," I replied, "doesn't look all that good." (I know, I know, "Blasphemy!")

"Well, you should try the 10-day trial, but trust me, you will love it," he said.

"Okay, okay, I'll try it," I said.

After 5 minutes of account info input and 34 hours of download later ( I know, my net speed sucks, I fixed that, trust me) there I was at the login screen. I thought to myself, "I hope my computer can handle this." I type in my account info and begin logging in. I pick my cousin's server, Azuremyst. Then the character screen pops up. OMG! so many choices! Which one do I pick? Dang, I never found out if my cousin was Alliance or Horde. A phone call later and I was choosing Alliance. So do I pick human, gnome, dwarf or night elf.

Human. Clicky.

Warrior, Priest, Paladin, Mage, Warlock, Rogue?

Rogues sound cool. Clicky.

Hair and skin styles follow. Manly face, with black hair tied in a pony-tail and a duelist goatee.

Awesome.

Name? Wow, I get to name him? Sweet! Spiders are cool. I'll name him Spyder. Nah, too simple. How bout Redyps? Nice works for me.

Meet Redyps.

So I have my toon, I login and phone my cuz. I get with him, I play a few lvls to like 5 and am estatic. I buy the game the next day. Login my CD key, get in game and was invited to my cousin's guild which is my first guild, Reservoir Dogs. So far I'm having fun. I get my rogue to level 19 and was thinking that I suck at being a rogue. So I decide to reroll. I leave my rogue way out in Lakeshire just stealthed somewhere by the lake and log.

Character screen:

um Human! Clicky.

um Warlock, sounds good. Clicky.

Name? um....well everyone calls me Red short for Redyps.....so Red-something....

Warlocks, magic, fires.....Red-fire! No.....Redfyre. Little did I know that warlocks do mostly shadow damage and boy wouldn't it be sweet for him to have green fire spells.

Meet Redfyre.

My second toon. I level him to 40 or so and then my cousin tells me to meet him in Shat. 'I'm like why?' 'So you can set your hearth and get to all the major cities.' 'Okay, where is Shat?'

'Outlands.' 'There's no Outlands on my map!' 'It's another planet.' 'There are other planets!!' 'Um Yeah.' 'You did get the Burning Crusade expansion?' 'Um No.' Next day I buy the BC edition.

Get to Outlands and set my hearth. Well, I get Redfyre up to level 70 and start running Heroics and Kara and the such. its was fun leveling up my lock. Going through all those quest chains to get my demons, my mounts and my Soul Harvester, which I still have in my bank with a Fiery chant on it, mostly because I have the entire Midsummer fire costume from the achievements. With the staff, the costume and a little Noggenfoggers, I become the Tiny Fiery Dancing Skeleton of Soul Harvesting! A lot of gold was involved but I have great guildies. I read up on Warlocks on the online blogs and such and learned to play my lock really well and was always fighting for the top DPS spot with my Affliction spec. Also turns out I was one of the best Fear kiters out there. Oh what fun it is to Fear Kite! I took up Enchanting and Tailoring. Now those are some slave driving professions. But with the cool chants that only I could have and the gear that only I could wear, they have become my best friends. So here I was on my main toon, having the time of my WoW life, when something happened. Throughout leveling up, I found out about Battlegrounds. Oh what fun! Kill the HORDE!! But then IT happened. At level 70, I kept getting ganked by rogues!

I finally started watching how Alliance rogues worked, moved, stabbed, ganked. And I was like, 'I can do that!' I placed my rogue on the shelf because I had no idea what I was doing with him. Time to break him out and get him up to level 70 so I can gank in the BGs.

Welcome to World of Warcraft.

[Redyps] is now online.

'Cough, Cough, Hack, Cough.' /shake Redridge dust off body

/stretch Let's give this a whirl. A total of 16 playing days later (about 2 1/2 weeks in RL time)

70 DING!

Through the leveling, my rogue had Herbalism and Skinning. At level 70, he dropped Herbs and picked up Leatherworking.

Since my lock and rogue are one of the few pure DPS toons, I switched them through Kara, ZA and other raid runs and eventually geared my rogue up. And I start owning in the BGs on both my lock and my rogue.

Lich King expansion hits and I have a choice. Which toon do I level first? Redyps was my first toon made, but Redfyre was the first to 70. Well I headed to Borean Tundra with my lock. I get there and the place is full of ninjas!

[Redfyre] has gone offline.

Human. Clicky.

Death knight. Clicky.

Name? TheRedDeath........I like reading Poe, if you haven't noticed. Since my guild had a tank shortage, the DK became my tank and my main. My DK currently carries the professions Jewelcrafting and Mining. Jewelcrafting was majorly needed in my guild. ResDogs was small and no one else in guild had that profession.

Shorty after getting my DK some epics my rogue finally made it to level 80 and shortly after that my Warlock hit 80. Right now Blizz seems to be against Warlocks. Just about everything in Northrend was made to be warlock unfriendly. Everything is Undead and unable to be feared. /pout

When I need to hide or get away from Northrend for a while I have a level 40 Night elf Hunter named Redblud and his four pets: the spider Spitz(my current favorite), the wolf Vargr, the kitty Blackblud and the bear Corduroy. I also have a level 36 Night elf Druid named Redwulf that I hang out on. I also have a few other toons scattered out on a couple PvP servers and maybe even 1 or 3 toons on the Horde side somewhere but my passion is the Alliance.

Well, there you have it.

My unstoppable Tank and DPSer, the DK named TheRedDeath.

'My services go to the highest bidder but kill all Hordies' rogue named Redyps.

My fear kiter and all round Demon enslaver, the warlock named Redfyre.

My hunter, Redblud and my druid Redwulf.

All them have become the Shadows of Red.

The Ruins have Returned!

Thought you would like to watch and/or listen to that while you read.

So, boy, have I been gone or what? Here I was reading my bud's blog, the purple-hatted druid, when I look down and see that I made it onto his Worthy Blogs spot. Then I noticed I hadn't written anything for 6 months! Well color me a fool. I better try to keep that spot!

So I think I'm going to try to write something at least once a day, to get myself into the habit. I will keep it WoW-related though I promise. I might even keep it Death Knight related but we'll see.

Well I know I have been gone a while so let me catch you up with me and what I have been doing.

Current spread from Wowarmory: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Azuremyst&n=Thereddeath

Yep, that's right. I am still Blood Tank. It's awesome. Now you'll probably notice that I have a 2nd spec that is no longer for DPS but a tank spec in the Frost tree.

Yes thats right, in the Frost tree. Since 3.3 PTR and Live, I have been playing with mitigation stats and increased threat, not to mention the fact that it would be awesome and totally sweet to be a great Dual Wielding tank. So I'm working that out. But to me Blood will always be my primary tank spec.

I believe the last time I posted I was still in Reservoir Dogs. Currently I am now in Band of Misfits. ResDogs had always been a small guild but we had a few people go off and create their own guild. That left ResDogs really small, like only the GL, her hubby, and 2 officers (myself and my wife). Well we starting raiding with Band of Misfits over the summer and turns out they liked us and offered us guild invites. After much thinking and minimal discussion we decided to place ResDogs in control on the GL alt and us 4 join the ranks of Band of Misfits. Awesome guild and the people there are great. This also gave us access to end raid content due to how many people they had and our skills as a team.

Due the raiding we do I have been able to completely overhaul my tanking set since last time I posted and have a DPS set in my bags plus several weapons to switch between, with Justicebringer being my favorite (at least until I get my DK's hands on Shadowmourne).

I will keep this site updated as much as I can!

Spells that make Us Greater
Alright, I'm sorry for not writing for a while. Been about a month or so but with work and RL, stuff just happens. Not sure why I am even apologizing. Not like anyone reads this right now, right? I mean, I don't really have a comments posted. OMG! I don't have any comments posted!
/cry
What do you want from me? What's next? Well enchanting of course.

Head:
For tanking you will want the Arcanum of the Stalwart Protector, which requires Revered reputation with the Argent Crusade. This little glyph gives you a 37 stamina increase and 20 points on defense which is just lovely.
For DPS, you will want the Arcanum of Torment, which requires Revered rep with the Knights of the Ebon Blade. This little beaut gives you a 50 point AP boost and a 20 point crit increase.

Shoulder:
Now the faction, The Sons of Hodir, offer all shoulder enchant glyphs for every class in game at level 80. For tanking your choice lies on The Lesser Inscription of the Pinnacle which Honored rep is required with this faction and The Greater Inscription of the Pinnacle for which Exalted status is required. For the DPS side of the house, you will be needing The Lesser Inscription of the Axe at Honored or The Greater inscription of the Axe at Exalted. So all DKs should definitely grind their rep with this faction until exalted, not to mention all the gold that you will need for repairs from raiding into the wee hours of the night.

Back/Cloak:
Tanking: Enchant Cloak - Titanweave offers a 16 point increase in Defense for you to reach that Def cap needed to be uncrittable. This doesn't mean you can't get the Enchant Cloak - Major Agility that offer the 22 agi boost for extra dodge and armor but I feel Titanweave gets you the most bang for your gold so to speak.
DPSing: Speaking from a Blood DPS perspective, I feel Enchant Cloak - Mighty Armor is great. Popping points into Bladed Armor lets you use this chant for added AP. Otherwise Enchant Cloak - Major Agility for the crit is the next best thing.

Chest:
Tanking: Enchant Chest - Greater Defense is great if you still need to reach the 540 Def cap, otherwise Enchant Chest - Powerful Stats is the best. Now if you're Def capped and you can't afford the Powerful Stats then Super Stats would be right up your alley.
DPSing: The only ones usable here are the Powerful Stats or Super Stats, depending upon your money situation.

Wrist/Bracers:
Tanking: Now for this chant I prefer the Enchant Bracers - Expertise since the recent nerf to the Expertise in the Blood tree. Prior to that Enchant Bracers - Major Stamina was my best friend. Also Enchant Bracers - Greater Stats is good. With this chant it all depends on really what you want from your chant. If you need the Extra threat, Expertise is needed. If you need survivability, then Major Stam is your calling, or if you just want to boost all your stats then Greater Stats is the way for you.
DPSing: Two great chants are Enchant Bracers - Greater Assault or Enchant Bracers - Greater Stats. Again the deciding factor is yours, whether to boost your AP or all your stats.

Hands/Gloves:
Tanking: I prefer Enchant Gloves - Armsman over the other 2 possible chants of Precision and Expertise. The added threat and parry are a help to any DK.
DPSing: Enchant Gloves - Greater Blasting, Crusher and Precision are all great for DPS. At this point it really depends on your Hit Cap and Crit rating. Let's face it, my DPS gear isn't all that great yet since I'm a tank but the gear I have puts me way over Hit cap without gems or chants so I can place the Precision aside. You should be able to as well. Now if your AP is over 3k, I recommend that you take Blasting for the crit increase. Again it is your preference.

Legs:
Both the tanking armor, Frosthide Leg Armor and DPS armor, Icescale Leg Armor, are made by all Leatherworkers. You can either farm the mats yourself and have a LW make one for you or you can buy them on the AH. Keep in mind it's usually cheaper to farm the mats yourself.

Feet/Boots:
Tanking: Enchant Boots - Greater Fortitude and Tuskarr's Vitality are both great. While the 22 stam boost from Greater Fort is good, I prefer to tank with Tuskarr's Vitality for the extra movement increase to stay ahead of my healer and DPS, or to stay, literally, one step ahead of my current target mob or boss.
DPSing: While Enchant Boots - Icewalker is great with the extra crit and hit, it tends to keep me way over hit cap. My preference lies with Enchant Boots - Greater Assault for the extra 32 AP.

Weapon:
While there are some great enchants for weapons, such as Berserking, Mongoose or Accuracy, DKs have a class profession of Runeforging. The Runeforging for our weapons was made to be the equivalent, if not better, enchants for our weapons whether tanking or DPSing.

For TANKing, my preference lies with Rune of the Stoneskin Gargoyle with the added 25 defense rating and the 2% increase in Stamina. Not only is the added stam great but with the 25 defense on your weapon it will free up a gem slot or 2 for other stats to be added.

On the DPS side of the weapon house, Rune of the Fallen Crusader is my favorite. Basically it acts as a Mongoose enchant for DKs. It procs the extra Strength for AP and has that added bonus of small heals.

Now with all chants, keep in mind, while thinking some of these chants over, of the usual group contruction/compostion that you run with while raiding. Such as, if you run with Paladins a lot, stacking pure Stats rather than AP would be better. While it doesn't increase self-buffed or outside buffs, Blessing of Kings increases all stats on your gear including chants.

Well I believe I have covered a lot of stuff here today and am real happy with this and I hope whoever reads this is, as well.

Into the Unknown

Give me a light so that I may tread into the Unknown,
Give me a sword so that I may protect myself, my clan,
Give me a soul so that I may yearn,
Give me a mind so that I may create,
Give me a heart so that I may love,
'Tis all myself I give to you, take me far into the Unknown.

Well, it's been about a week since the patch from hellfire and my DK has somewhat ironed out his current nerfed skills. I figured it might be time to at least try Ulduar out and it just so happens the guild that my guildies and I raid with, planned out two 10-man groups for this past weekend. As you all know, I am in the guild, Reservoir Dogs, but myself (DK tank), Pinksky (my wife and guild Holy Pally), Hedwig (our GM and Disc Priest), and Matheo (our Feral Druid tank) all found a guild, Band of Misfits, that loves to have fun while raiding and needed a couple tanks and healers to top off groups for 25-man runs. Hence we have been raiding with them for a couple months and loving it. We've been through 25-man Naxx and the guild leader/raid leader of BoM decided that the next step would be 10-man runs of Ulduar and once through 10-man we would recombine the groups from 25-man. Great idea if you ask me.

So anyway Saturday found us in Storm Peaks, facing the awe-inspiring archway into Ulduar. Everyone had reservations.....we knew that huge repair bills awaited us. So in we delved!
Let me tell you, this was my first time entering this instance. I entered and was amazed at how vast the inside was. I mean I know there are Titans involved...but dang!

So our RL, Lierthes, gives us the rundown on the mobs and how we kill things with the vehicles we control. Everyone hops in to their assigned wheels. I was running one of the siege engines. Now when we first found out about the first boss and how vehicles were involved I was pissed. First of all, I hate, and I mean HATE, Oculus and Eye of Eternity (EoE). Explanations we heard sounded like it would be like this fight but once we started it, I found it was more like Wintergrasp. And Wintergrasp I love. So while Lier was finishing the explanations, this tiny little motorcycle, at least compared to the tank I was in, voomed out to the mobs and back, which the mobs apparently did not like and our run into Ulduar ensued. We kept in a tight little group and just mowed thru all these mobs. It was FUN!

We knew we had to kill all the Giants in order to get Flame Leviathan out so we found and destroyed everything up until the boss area. They were the last two Giants and a couple groups of mobs. I was figuring we would pull the groups way back so we can buff and repair before hitting FL but a couple cycles and engines decided to rush foward and kill everything thus pulling the boss. Turns out that someone wasn't in vent and didn't hear us say, Pull BACK! So in for a copper and in for a gold! We all rush in after taking a quick repair and kill everything and FL rushes through his gate and attacks. We all knew what needed to be done and went forewith into the flames. I have to say on a misguided pull, 37% health left on FL was dang good but we wiped. Now begins the repair bills!

We come back in, gather onto the Formation grounds and buff up. We load back into our machines and proceed to wipe out FL and take his loot! We get our Emblem of Valor and he drops Flamewatch Armguards. Well both myself and the warrior tank roll and I win these blessed bands, which I later have chanted with Expertise because of our Expertise nerf in the Blood tree.

We then proceed to mount up and head for XT-002. On our way there we see off to our left, two Molten Colossi. We decided to take them out before someone pulls them. This was before we knew about the silence and the massive damage they do when pissed off. We do wipe but we take one of them down with us, only to find out they respawn if both aren't dead and that the one we killed actually dropped good loot, for the master looter went into effect. We all rez'd and ran in, hoping for a purple drop. What do you know! An epic neck dropped! Fervor of the Protectorate, another tank purple! What a lucky day! I lose the roll to the other tank, but I got the bracers. No complaints from me.

So we blow off the Moltens and head straight to XT-002. And for the sake of my fingers, I'll give ya'll the run down. We wipe about 8 or so times on him, decide to call it and come back on Sunday. Come back on Sunday continue to wip 7 or so more times try Razorscale twice, scream and rant and yell, WTH!!!! and go back to XT-002. Hit him 3 more times and finally get him to the enrage timer with just the healers and myself alive and end the night quite happy knowing that next week he will die and give us purple pixels. :)

All in all, I'd say we all did pretty good and will be ready for more Ulduar next week!

Also a lot more dailies will be involved this week. Repair bills killed my savings on all my toons.

All Hail the Conquering Heroes!

*Cue Music! Lights! Action!!!*
We voom in on a body sprawled on the ground in Icecrown. It's a human. He's not dead...well maybe....he's a death knight. But he's covering his nether regions and moaning in pain.

***************************

Yep. Matheo knew was going to happen. The DK got hit in the nads with the nerf bat, hard, in WoW patch 3.1.So my DK, Thereddeath, as a Blood specced tank just got mangled by the recent patch. You should have seen it. He was at the top of the world on Monday! He had his 4-piece tier bonus not all T7.5 but still quite up there. On Tuesday he was found in Icecrown clutching his nethers in the fetal position surrounded by ghouls of every size, laughing at him.Shards! That nerf bat can really hurt. Our parry was nerfed with Blade Barrier moving to damage reduction from parry increase with Blood Runes on cooldown. Expertise in the Blood tree was nerfed to Armor Penetration in the Blood Gorged talent. Blood tanks are starting to look a lot like Druid bear tanks with all the dodge and damage mitigation. WTH happened to our parry and expertise? I know people were whining and complaining about OP DKs but why mess with tanking abilities and stats?! Granted it's the defense mechanisms that causing all the problems but I guess the only way to cut out these problems is to turn us into Warriors with one tree for tanking and two for DPS. I wouldn't like that. I tend to play the underdog when it comes to playing my toons. Blood tree tanks are ranked 3rd in tanking compared to Frost and Unholy, Combat specs for rogues are ranked 3rd with Assasin/Mut spec leading followed closely by Subt/HaT rogues and at the moment Affliction locks are also ranked 3rd against Demon and Destro specs but I don't sharding care. I can still top DPS charts with each of these and out do most tanks be they warrior, druid, the pally rangers or the other DKs. Knowledge of your class makes the different of whether you will be good or not. Also to all the QQ'ers out there, knowledge of other classes and their abilities can be really helpful in killing them in PvP. For instance as a combat spec rogue with all cooldowns available I can take out a DK, and an Unholy one at that. I know rogues but I also know DKs and their weaknesses. I now when to Kidney Shot, when to Blind, when to Gouge when to switch weapons and when to run!

Anyway back the DK nerf at hand. So with nerfs firmly in place, I had more research and more Talent calculationg to do to reaffirm my Blood tank awesome-ness. Here's what I came up with: Talent Link. I still opted for Blood. Come on and face it. By the First Egg, there was no way on the Red Star I would have chosen Frost and Unholy for tanking specs. Blood is for the Elites of the Elites and baby, I'm the bloody god of the Elites. /flex and /pose! In the words of .... well me.....

/ResDog flex

/grr

I still took the Blade Barrier. 5% damage reduction is at least something to shake a stick at or whatever Bosses want to shake at the tank. Dammit Jim, I'm a tank, not a bloody lifeless sack of meat! I kept Blood Gorged. The extra ArmorPen just creates more threat for me. I also kept Spell Deflection. Now here is where I got mad at myself for not writing down some of my notes. I believe this talent used to be any magic damage and also based on Parry and Dodge, while the Dodge being taken out of this, is an apparent nerf, the damage reduction was increased. Now the Blood tree does have a new talent that came in the patch 3.1. Improved Death Strike was added as a rank 2 in tier 8 of the tree. The way I see it, is the more damage and the more crit that Death Strike packs, bigger the heals are going to be from it. Now I also happen to have the Sigil of Awareness that I have been testing in my DPS spec and is working out great for my dual spec. Since I am already defense capped and the Sigil of the Unfaltering Knight is just adding extra defense for dodge and to fortify Icebound Fortitude and I'm glyphed for the extra IbF damage reduction, I am planning on trying and replacing that Sigil with the Awareness to help with extra heals and damage.I did switch out glyphs for Heart Strike to gain that movement reduction to keep mobs from running away and one shotting healers and such. Will of the Necropolis is a definite nerf. The cooldown was added and the 5% triggers are gone. No more last second stands with Bosses. Now I'm pretty sure I have worked out the new talent tank spec for Blood enough to survive even the toughest Boss. ;)One other thing that I seem to have found has to do with Pestilence. I know Blizz took out the damage, which sucks, and added extra damage to Blood Boil, both of these I have macro'd together, but since the patch I keep getting error messages about 'Paths not Found' when trying to use Pestilence. I could be fighting the mob face on with nothing between us and still get that message. I remember seeing a note somewhere about a pathing change to Pestilence but can't seem to find it now. I will post it later when I find it.Well it looks to be that my awesome-ness has once again saved my fav'd Blood spec tank from extinction.

**********************

*Camera vooms out and the music swells ominously in the background*

The once fallen knight is now standing again, on a pile of ghoul corpses, commanding his own Ghoul Army, awaiting the day he too can face the Lich King and offer his wickedly sharp blade the chance to meet Arthas' neck. But for now he has conquered the dreaded 3.1 patch.

/ResDog flex

/grr

QQing in the Grizzlies

Well here I am again. I know its been a little while, well 8 days to be precise. But between work and the game I couldn't find time to sit down and write. That and I had a little writer's block which you all think is probably weird since this is a fresh new column. Well, what do you expect. I'm new to this. I didn't quite plan every blog, if i did, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a blog.

Well there is a few topics out there that I am researching and writing on now. But today I'm taking one of those bunny trails that I told you all I would take now and then. Well, okay, this is a bear hunt. I'm going way off topic of DKs. But hey, this is my blog and I'll QQ if I want too.

(NOTE: All characters presented are level 73)
*******************************
So we begin our journey today in the Hills of Grizzly. Known for its vast and raw power in every animal able rip your face off if you so much as look at them wrong. A lone rogue named Redyps is plying his trade and skinning the fallen bucks he has taken down in the name of Master Woodsman Andorhol. Keeping the storehouse full of venison takes a lot of work with so many Alliance passing through these parts that some of us have taken it upon ourselves to help the locals in their duties. Redyps is always leary and is always looking around for possible interuptions. Rogues have to be always on their guard. You never really know when Horde will pop out of nowhere and lay into you. Like any other rogue, Redyps does his jobs for the coin, sure the prestige and the reputation he gathers is great but the coin is exceptional.

Now Redyps is also known for something else most rogues would deny. Redyps hates the Horde with a passion. Most rogues could care less for where their affiliations lay. Hence this young uppidty rogue always leaves himself open for attacks just for the pure pleasure of taking out a Hordie.

So here he was just skinning these bucks when he hears and feels a small brush of wind. Noting that the trees are not moving he quickly places his new leather and skinning tool into theirs respective bags. He hints a combined scent of feline and bovine on the air. Redyps smiles darkly. He knows not who is stalking him but he knows it's a druid, a tauren.

'Funny how these druids think they are rogues,' Redyps thinks to himself.

********************************
Now I think I can stop there. I hope you enjoyed that little story. I know, I know, I didn't finish it. I could write more but this is where I need to stop to make my point. Most rogues and druids know whats going to happen, yes? A fight will ensue and a victor will come out on top. But which one?

Well several things are factors here. First we have the rogue. Most of us know rogues have tons of abilities and are actually capable of taking down all classes if the abilities are used correctly. Rogues are based upon instant spike damage to kill off their opponent.

Now druids(feral), are built one of two ways. Instant spike damage or damage mitgation while still doing a decent amount of damage. Which is good considering Druids are tanks and/or DPS. But in a one on one fight PvP style this is bad. Let me lay it out for you.

The druid is picking the fight here correct? Yes.

So given that fact, the druid must be pretty confident that he can take down the rogue using his instant spike damage? Yes.

So once this fights begins this druid should stay in kitty form to ensure maximum damage is dealt to the rogue? Yes.

But what happens if say the rogue, Redyps, is on top of his game and knows the ins and outs of a life and death PvP battle, and is able to overcome and demolish the druid, say like this.......

*******************************
Redyps instantly vanishes and applies a distraction to the side of him and forces the druid to wander into his line of sight. The druid is also able to target Redyps and does an instant pounce to stun Redyps, and begins to rake and rip Redyps and Redyps' life force drains from him. Redyps aware of imminent demise uses his racial ability, Every Man for Himself and Shadowsteps behind the druid and lays into the druid with Hemorrhage and then Kidney shots........

******************************
Now again lets stop here. So what just happened? The kitty got over zealous and thought he could take the rogue out without making sure his prey ( yeah right ) couldn't get away. IE: he didn't make Redyps use his oh crap buttons. So what is the druid going to do now? This is where I start the QQ'ing i guess.

*****************************
The druid is stunned and realizing this he attempts a shapeshift to Bear form removing the stun adding to his health and armor. Redyps is now in a fight for his life.

*****************************
WTF!!
So that is TOTALLY unfair.
That kitty just became a bear and now that rogue barely has a chance. I mean, all that extra armor, the extra health and the avoidance?! No rogue is able to do that but yet here is a kitty wannabe rogue trying to out rogue a rogue, is unable to do so and now decides, 'oh what the hay!' Lets turn this into a long fight cuz I can win that way. This brings up another point. Shapeshifting for druids is basically a free get out of Dodge City card. All stuns and snares are removed when they shapeshift and there is no limit to the number of times they can shapeshift. Any and all stuns that Redyps can place on that druid just became null and void.

Well there you have it. My QQ. Shapeshifting for PvP should not be allowed, or i should say shapeshifting in PvP fights should have a cooldown attached to present more of a fair fight. Well I'm sick and just wanted a QQ post so that I would have one, even if it's not a good one. But I want to finish the story for ya all. :D

****************************
Redyps smiles inside. He is always prepared! He quickly blinds the bear hoping to gain a crucial second or two. His daggers vanish from sight to be replaced with two Fool's Banes, both with the lovely magical chant of Executioner, then he prepared and vanished. Redyps came out with a Cheap Shot followed with a few Hemos and then a Kidney shot. A few more hemos later, he popped an Evicerate and the tauren dropped dead. MMMMM....Beef. It's what's for dinner!

****************************

I'll probably cathc hell for this from my bud and fellow guildie, Matheo (go on and check his blog) but there you have it. My QQ about shapeshifting dinners...err i mean Taurens. But beware for I am always prepared.

I told you this was a BEAR hunt! Pun intended!

Death Knight Talent Spec
Well to begin this 2nd installment…..lol…..look at me! This sounds like a TV show. "Will Harry ever meet Eliza?" "And will Joseph be cured?" Find out in the next Episode of Drama Live!! Thursday at 10:00am!
Kidding!!
So my DK is now level 80. What do I do now? Dailies? Yes. Finish zone quests for Achievements? Yes. What about Heroics? YES!! But what about me? Am I a DPSer (damage per second)? Am I a Healer? Wait a minute…I wear plate! I always hated PuGs where the tank didn’t know what he was doing but acted like it and then caused the group to wipe. Why not become a tank? I can DPS, I can’t heal and I can wear tank gear to become a tank. I have two DPS toons already. Why not take a stab at being a tank?
So I settled with becoming a tank. A DK tank. Now to pick the spec and use my talents for the benefit of my group. With great power comes great responsibility. (oh no he didn’t.) Oh Yes I did!!
Being a tank is a big responsibility. So I have to be mature and make good decisions for my spec. What will keep me alive and cause enough threat to mobs around me to stay focused on me, not my DPS and certainly not my healer. Here’s what I came up with:
TALENT LINK
Blood specc’d : 56/10/5 I call this the Blood Gorged Tank.

First off, every DK tank and I mean ALL DK tanks should have the tier 1 rank 5 of Anticipation from Unholy tree, Toughness from the Frost tree and Blade Barrier from the Blood tree. All 3 of those are essential for DK tanks. If you don’t have those you’re not a tank.
Now prior to Lich King release and even after, rumors were abound that made people think and act and say that the Frost tree was the tanking tree for DKs. Well in an attempt to make these rumors stop, and for the pure fact that Blood DKs sound really cool. I went with Blood! Now I did my research. I checked talent calculators, websites, blogs, etc. to try and find information on DK tanks. At the time not much existed, but I found the stat requirements I needed to begin. Now I, myself love tanking with 2 handed weapons so all stats and talents are based on that. Dual wield tanking causes too much parry gibbing which you would need a lot of EXPERTISE for. Below are the stats needed:
DK Tank stats needed:
DEF 540 cap
HIT 293-296 cap /2handers
HEALTH 28k+
PARRY 20%
DODGE 20%
EXP 60
The main stat every DK should stack is STRENGTH. STRENGTH (STR) is Attack Power (AP) and PARRY. So no matter if you’re DPS or Tank....you cannot ever have enough strength. Right now the ratio is 4STR to 1PARRY. So all tanks out there stack as much as you can get! DPS same goes for you. For every 1STR is 2AP. Now for the sake of our non-weapon attacks and diseases. All of these are known as spells, basically magic effects. All spell power for DKs are scaled with AP. Under no circumstances should you be gearing in Spell power plate. Leave the pally stuff alone, they need it, we don't. Expertise: This statistic is actually relatively useful to DK tanks. It takes approximately 8.2 expertise rating to equal 1 expertise at 80. You'll need about 26 expertise to prevent dodges, which is all a DPS should need since mobs can't parry from behind, or about 60 expertise to prevent parries, which would be nice for tanks, but shouldn't be taken at the expense of too many mitigation or avoidance stats.
Now back to talents. I chose the Blood tree for a few reasons.
1: The self-healing the tree gives you, I feel, helps relieves some healers’ stresses. Improved Rune tap, Bloodworms and Vampiric Blood are great along with Blood Aura.
2: I like the Spell Deflection talent. It’s quite useful for most if not all bosses and mobs in Northrend instances and raids and paired with Anti-Magic Shell, negates most magic spells against you.
3: Veteran of the Third War talent has the rank 3 increase in STR for your PARRY and the STAM increase for your health along with the EXPERTISE boost that the tanks will need.
4: Will of the Necropolis talent is great for those last second stands against Bosses that have the last 1% you need to knock out.
5: Heart Strike talent offers a great tank action cleave for multiple target mobs.

I lean heavily on DPS talents if you notice. This is mainly for THREAT. I did try a couple spec twists by delving deeper into Frost for Lichborne and Unholy for Unholy Command but going through several instances and raids my THREAT was way too low and I was unable on some pulls to keep mobs on me. Blizzard has said that they wanted DKs to be tanks with DPS power to back them up. They meant it. Without the DPS to back up my tanking I would be a bad tank.
Now I know some of you out there will be saying that Frost has Unbreakable Armor and Unholy has Bone Shield. Wouldn’t it be better to spec into those talents? For the most part I would agree. On the other hand Vampiric Blood to comparable to both those talents, I might even be willing to say that VB is better in some regards. Vampiric Blood’s tooltip states ‘increases the amount of health generated through spells and effects by 35% for 20secs’. With all of the Blood trees self-healing abilities is where this comes into play. VB followed by Rune Tap (which by the way crits) could save your life if the healer just ran out of mana and needs a quick breather but you still have 17 secs of VB left! Death Strike, Bloodworms, Blood Aura and Health Pots are all multiplied by this effect! Shoot pop your dodge trinkets and bandage yourself! Even that is multiplied. I know, I’ve done it. Also Death Pact is awesome for that last second heal. Pop Raise Ghoul then Death Pact. All of these can be done while VB is active. I’ve tested the timing. You can be literally on the brink of death, but VB is flexible enough to bring you right back to full health plus some. Can Unbreakable Armor and Bone Shield do that? The answer is NO.

Now this post was quite long, but I hope it answers questions. Shoot I hope it asks questions. Please comment. Ask questions, reply about misconception, anything. Criticism is good. Just a reminder that this is my first time doing something like this and I hope to get better! See ya next installment! I hoping for questions in the comments to answer for that one.

Beginning of a new Death Knight Era (maybe)

Well I was thinking of kicking this blog off with a joke about a Priest and a Warlock but then maybe you wouldn’t laugh and then would stop reading. So I’ll just get right into it, eh?

Hi! My name (not real of course) is TheRedDeath. That is the name of my level 80 Death Knight I play in the World of Warcraft online MMORPG. My reason for starting this blog was the simple fact that recently I have been getting tells in game about my gear, my talents, my all around how to play a death knight, to be referred to as DK from here on. I had brought this up in guild chat because I felt it was kind of weird since I know I’m not the best player out there. A guildie who I always take advice from and respect for it, told me to start a blog. So let’s kick it off and see how I do!

First here is my character page. http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Azuremyst&n=Thereddeath
When the expansion of WoW Lich King came out, I was excited. For several reasons.
Number one: More of the game to play.
Two: The hero class Death Knights, the ultimate Warlock in plate! I mean come on. Warlocks…in plate!!
A little history to start off. I played a Warlock and a Rogue (both at end game Burning Crusade) prior to Lich King but I wanted to know how it was to wear plate without having to level through 1 to 80. Well here was my chance, DKs started at level 55 if you had a toon at level 55. So I made a deal with myself, since I know most people on my server were going to shoot off and start Northrend quests and try to get to 80 first I would take a little time and before I start that and create a DK and see how it was.
Well before I knew I had leveled to 59 and was just starting my rebellion against the Lich King after killing innocent villagers for 3 levels. I was actually enjoying playing this DK. So I finished rebelling and was sent to Stormwind (I’m a human DK) to become a member of the Alliance. Since Northrend starting areas were still packed with ninjas I decided to keep playing the DK and hit Outlands for a little fun with the Demons and Orcs. Before I knew it I was sailing thru Hellfire, into Zangarmarsh and right into my favorite zone, Nagrand. The beauty of Nagrand is exquisite. But again I surfed thru those Nesingway quests in no time and was hitting 68-69 when I had the compulsion to hit Northrend.
So I started in Borean Tundra and before I knew it I was in Icecrown taking on 5 man group quests by myself and realized I was having fun and was not that far from hitting 80! Well I hit 80 on the Rider quests and was quite proud. Plate armor rocks! I had leveled my DK from 55 to 80. Now this is where my blog will take a different note on talents, specs and gear. Come back for the next installment to see what I did!
